Landscape Myth: ‘I Want a No-Maintenance Landscape’
Here’s a common landscape myth: “I want a no-maintenance landscape.”
Really? No fragrance, no movement, no back-lit leafy transparency? No softness, no changing seasonal effect? No swelling buds, no emerging green, no growth, no quiet surprise of spring color? No gentle transformation from green to gold to orange and scarlet as summer turns to fall?
Ok, if you say so. We can concrete over the space, arrange some containers with silk flowers, roll out a fake lawn. It will look the plastic same in November as it does in June.
But, you’ve got a point. Your life is busy and you don’t have the time or energy or interest to plan, prune, trim, edge, spray, weed, spread, schedule, water, dead-head, shape, and so on. Your idea of a good time is not puttering around in the yard. Maybe your thumb is brown, not green.
We can design Lower Maintenance. There are ways to arrange plants and organize spaces that minimize the care needed. There are some plants and planting styles which take less care than others. You might be surprised.
You can hire the outside work to be done by others. We happen to know a full crew or two of talented, committed estate gardeners. These guys are motivated to show tender loving care to the yards they frequent. That’s why we call it Constant Care!
